Wolterton Park
A historic Georgian Estate built by Horatio Walpole, brother to the esteemed Sir Robert Walpole. The hall, inspired by Palladio, Thomas Ripley the architect produced an exceptional house of great originality and style. The park designed by the great landscape gardener Charles Bridgeman, boasts one of the largest walled gardens in Europe and a stunning 10-acre lake set in 500 acres of fields and woodland.
New owners, Peter Sheppard and Keith Day, have set about restoring the Grade I listed buildings, using traditional materials required by their listed status. The State rooms all have original marble fireplaces carved by Richard Fisher of York as well as intricately moulded cornices and ceilings. The American walnut for all the doors was a gift from Queen Caroline to Horatio Walpole. National hero, Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, was named after his godfather and a frequent visitor to Wolterton where a suite of rooms in which he stayed is named after him.
The entire Palladian house can be hired for exclusive use for special celebrations just six times a year.Hire includes exclusive access to the state rooms, the library and both the caterers and family kitchen.
Accommodation for 24 includes the magnificent State bedroom suite. Eleven restored bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms are on the second floor all positioned around the 2 light wells and with views of every aspect of the park.
Wherever possible the gardens and park have remained free from development with the aim being to reinstate the historic character of these areas so that the landscape reflects its nationally important character and provides a stunning setting for the Hall. Providing a truly unique setting for unforgettable experiences.
The estate boasts a number of additional accommodation options that can be included in the exclusive hire or rented independently. These included the grand East Wing is a fully restored, luxurious seven-bedroom apartment, accommodating up to 14 overlooking the lake. The house has a spacious Drawing Room and Dining Room & a large private garden adjoining the park with dining terrace and barbecue.
Stewards and Garden House both sleep 6 and a further 5 can be accommodated in the Gate House, The cozy double in the Treasury brings the Estates total capacity up to 57 guests or 29 in single occupancy.
